Hello all Si-Dai and Si-Mui (Junior Kung Fu Brothers and Sisters),

Happy New Year!

The year is getting off to a great start at the Dragon Wing Chun Chinese Kung Fu Martial Arts School. We had a great turnout on Saturday and we had a new full time student start from scratch, not knowing anything, gets introduced to a full Wing Chun class his first day.

WOW! Just imagine, first we did the Wing Chun Kung Fu style salute (please and thank you), then the Siu Lim Tao twice, first lead by our Si Hing, then by our head instructor, me! Then we did the staff form (Luk Dim Boon Gwan Fa), Then the butterfly swords form (Baat Cham Dao Fa), Then we practiced a sword and staff combat application. I always have extra equipment for new students to use. After a short break, we continued with energy and trapping techniques, which is our focus this quarter.

A WOW! factor for any new student I'm sure. I would be elated. So many Instructors hold back knowledge for a lot of reasons, some do it to squeeze as much money as possible out of the student and some don't really know everything they should know.

This quarter (nov, dec, jan) we are focused on understanding trapping, energy and opponents responses and body movements. This includes bridges, forward cross and netural energy, and 1,2,3,4 stage trapping. Also concepts like before, during and after, responding to what is, changing what is, creating the response. We are 2 months into the quarter with some students more and less familiar with the techniques.

What happens in class I determine by what some students have had recently and others may have missed. I give the students what they need balanced on the overall group attendance. If the students request a review of something, I will normally accommodate.

Next quarter(feb, mar, apr) we will focus on strike, control and break, and the following quarter(may, jun, jul) we will be back to focus on Chi Sao, lop sao/pac sao and other drills. After 3 quarters (9 months) students have attended 72 hours of class time. This can be obtained sooner with private lessons or if we can get 3 or more students to start another class. After 72 class hours, students have had enough time to learn the material on the first test. The students will take the test and if passing will receive their certificate of belt ranking. Also, after 72 hours, the students are eligible for some free dummy time.

We have 2 wooden dummies at this time, and so for the chilly days I have invested $150 for a propane blow furnace and tank to keep the dummies warm. Ha Ha Ha. Some of the students worked on the dummies on Saturday and gave the blow furnace the thumbs up! It does the job of keeping the kwoon toasty.

So start the year off right and get in touch with me to start your Wing Chun future. $5.00 to $6.25 an hour is a great deal for training in a high class facility, with an insured, background checked, certified Wing Chun black belt instructor.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
